Born in a tribal family based in a remote village of Mayurbhanj, Draupadi Murmu started her political journey with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) way back in 1997.

Naveen congratulated Droupadi Murmu on behalf of people of Odisha and wished her all the best ahead of swearing-in ceremony tomorrow.

The BJP MLAs have left for Delhi today to attend the swearing-in of India’s first Tribal President - a rare honour for Mayurbhanj.

The other 9 MLAs who voted for Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha, included 8 from the Congress and lone CPM MLA Laxman Munda (Bonai).

Barabati-Cuttack MLA & Senior Congress Leader Mohammed Moquim stunned the party leadership by defying the instructions and voting in favour of NDA’s Presidential Candidate Draupadi Murmu saying he voted for the daughter of the soil as per his conscience.
