TNI Bureau: In a significant move to overhaul India’s examination system, the Central Government has constituted a six-member High-Powered Task Force on examination reforms under the chairmanship of Infosys co-founder and digital governance architect Nandan Nilekani, announces PM Narendra Modi in Instagram.
The committee comprises former ISRO Chairman S. Somnath, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti, former School Education Secretary Anita Karwal, and Union Road Transport and Highways Secretary Amrit Lal Meena. The panel brings together expertise in technology, education, security, governance and public administration to recommend comprehensive reforms for public examinations.
The task force has been entrusted with examining ways to strengthen the integrity, transparency and security of examinations across the country. It will recommend the adoption of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, digital identity verification and secure digital infrastructure, to prevent paper leaks, impersonation and other forms of examination malpractice.
The committee is also expected to suggest governance reforms, improved accountability mechanisms and measures to modernise examination processes, ensuring a fair, credible and technology-driven assessment system for millions of students.
The initiative comes amid growing concerns over repeated examination irregularities and paper leak incidents that have triggered nationwide student protests and demands for systemic reforms. It follows the Centre’s decision to introduce stricter legal measures, including enhanced penalties and fast-track courts for paper leak cases.
By bringing together experts from diverse fields, the government aims to formulate long-term structural reforms that go beyond punitive action. The Nilekani-led panel is expected to leverage India’s digital public infrastructure to build a secure, transparent and future-ready examination ecosystem and restore public confidence in the country’s examination system.
