Cap on LPG Cylinders to be raised to 9

Cap on LPG Cylinders to be raised to 9

Date:

TNI Bureau: Just two days before the Gujarat Polls, the Congress-led UPA Government has hinted at raising the cap on subsidised LPG cylinders from 6 to 9 in a year. Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily has said that the Cabinet will take a final decision to ratify this decision.

It was a very clever move by the Congress, as it fell short of making the final announcement in order to escape the wrath of the Election Commission. At the same time, it give a clear message that the cap would be increased soon.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has taken strong exception to Moily’s announcement and sought clarification from the Petroleum Ministry in this regard. The EC also asked the government to stop implementation of any such plan till the model code of conduct is in place.
