Parties get Tax Exemption of Rs 2,490 Crore @ 5 Years

TNI Bureau: Ten major political parties in India have received Rs 2,490 crore of tax-exemption in the last five years. The Income Tax department revealed the data through an RTI plea.

The ruling Congress is leading the pack with a tax exempted income of Rs 1,385.36 crore. The BJP is on the second spot with Rs 682 crore. Mayawati’s BSP has recorded an income of Rs 147.18 crore in three years. Sharad Pawar’s NCP reported tax-exempted income of Rs 141.34 crore in the last five years.

The tax-exempted income of CPI-M stands at Rs 85.61 crore in four years, while CPI had a income of Rs 28.47 crore in two years. JD(U) reported Rs 15.51 crore income. JD(S), LJP and RJD recorded tax-exempted incomes of Rs 7.16 crore, Rs 2.55 crore and Rs 2.85 crore respectively.
