Kadaknath Chicken is a popular species of chicken in India that is found in some districts and villages in Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Gujarat, and Rajasthan. This Indian Breed of Chicken is also known as Kali Masi in India because of its greyish black color. This different species is very popular among Foodies for its different taste and texture which is why its numbers sharply declined over the last couple of decades.

Kadaknath also looks different from other species of chicken and is very high in demand. Majorly this chicken is bred by the rural communities and poor tribals. This chicken is greyish black with a Turquoise glow on it. It is mainly famous for its different color of meat. The other major difference in this chicken is that it is also approved by the Government of India with a Geographical Indication tag on it.

This chicken breed also has a lower fat content as compared to the other common chicken breeds. Apart from the fact that Kadaknath has lower fat content, this chicken also has some good medicinal properties. Due to its uniqueness, the Kadaknath Chicken costs higher than the usual chicken.

Also, this chicken is considered sacred by some communities and is used for giving sacrifices to the Goddess after the Diwali festival every year. Recently, due to a decline in the numbers of Kadaknath Chicken Species, the Madhya Pradesh Government has come up with a Kadaknath Poultry Breeding Program to save the species from extinction.

Now the species again became a matter of buzz after the reports of popular Cricketer and Former Indian Cricket Team Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni buying 2000 Kadaknath Chickens for his poultry farm. This chicken species is undoubtedly gaining more and more popularity these days.
