TNI Bureau: Frequent power outages and unscheduled cuts across Odisha have exposed the growing public frustration with the poor power supply system and the apathy of Tata Power. In peak summer, people are suffering without electricity for hours, while complaints often go unheard.
Essential services, businesses and students are bearing the brunt of this inefficiency. The Odisha government cannot remain a silent spectator. It must tighten oversight, enforce accountability and crack down on negligent power distribution practices. Consumers deserve reliable service, transparency and timely grievance redressal.
It is ironic that instead of rising to the occasion, Odisha’s Energy Minister chose to defend the prolonged power cuts, attributing them to high electricity consumption and overloading. What remains baffling is his reluctance to take a tough stand against Tata Power, even at the risk of fuelling public anger and damaging the government’s credibility.
If the situation continues unchecked, public anger will only intensify and may soon turn into a major political and social challenge for the government.
