By Himanshu Guru: ‘Rush’ is not a great film despite the presence of Emran Hashmi. It is just another movie with the usual topic ‘Ambitious guy get trapped in a wrong-doers gang’. Unfortunately, Hashmi who has recently given films like ‘Shanghai’ and ‘The Dirty Pictures’ has failed to attract the audience in ‘Rush’.
The film, which is directed by Late Shamin Desai and completed by his wife Priyanka, is a tale of an ambitious investigative news reporter Samar Grover (Emran Hashmi) who gets entangled himself in the usual competition of TRP race. He is offered the job of Editor-in-Chief in a rival channel by media tycoon Lisa Kapoor (Neha Dhupia). The channel, owned by India’s richest man Roger Khanna (Aditya Pancholi), focuses solely on crime reports. Ahana (Chak de India’ famed Sagarika Ghatge) is his girlfriend. Sam is happy with his new lucrative perks. But on one night when a former colleague warns him about the misdeeds his channel is involved in, Sam finds himself miserably trapped at a wrong place with lots of criminal activities.
The film can be seen as a Bollywood adaptation of John Grisham’s famous novel ‘The Firm’. However, the only difference is, there the lead character was a young lawyer and here the same character is a media guy.

The film is actually directed by late Shamin Desai and completed by his wife Priyanka. So, perhaps some key points are missed in the film, but still the ‘direction’ is ‘Okay’. Story of the film is not a new one. Thus, audience expects something big from other aspects like, production value or acting. But though Emran has tried his best, the result is not encouraging. Even, neither Neha Dhupia nor Sagarika Ghatge makes any kind of impact. Villain of the film Aditya Pancholi not only provides under performance but his look is also not perfect.
The cinematography is good. Coming to music, except JazzyB’s ‘Fukraa’ and ‘Chup Chup Ke’ no other track by Pritam Chakravarthi seems soothing, who had recently given mind-blowing music in Cocktail and Barfi. Normally Emran Hashmi’s films have hit music. But this time the same is missed in ‘Rush’.
So, our final verdict is that, if you are a big fan of Emran Hashmi, then only you should go watch ‘Rush’.
