India test-fires nuclear-capable Dhanush

Date:

TNI Bureau: India successfully test-fires nuclear-capable Dhanush, as part of a user  trial from INS Subhadra in the Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast.

Describing the trial as fully successful, DRDO’s spokesperson Ravi Kumar Gupta said the test was conducted by the strategic force command (SFC) of the Indian Navy. “The trial was a complete success and all the mission objectives were accomplished,” he said.

Dhanush, which has liquid propellant, is the naval version of the country’s indigenously developed surface-to-surface ‘Prithvi’ ballistic missile. Developed by the DRDO, the missile is about 8.53 metre in length and 0.9 metre in diameter.

With a pay-load capacity of 500 kg the missile is capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads with a range of 350 km.

The Dhanush missile can be used as an anti-ship weapon as well as for destroying land targets depending on the range.
