Heavy Rains plays Havoc in Uttarakhand

Heavy rains, followed by massive landslide and cloudburst, played havoc in Uttarakhand, leaving hundreds of pilgrims stranded. The Char Dham Yatra was postponed following the devastation in the state.

Uttarakhand RainsThe Uttarkashi district has been worst hit by rains and floods. Many bridges and houses collapsed, while the rivers are still raging. Over 300 pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh were stranded somewhere near Dunda in Uttarkashi. Efforts are being made to reach out to them, as they are struggling without the basic amenities.

So far, 26 people have been killed in Uttarakhand due to rains and landslides. Over 100 are still missing. A cloudburst was reported from Rambara in Kedarnath. Around 50 people have gone missing. In Rudraprayag, over 2,000 people have been stranded. Power and mobile communications are badly affected there. Cricketer Harbhajan Singh is also among the stranded pilgrims.
