Odisha Launches Tourism Caravans to Boost Safe and Comfortable Travel

Date:

TNI Bureau: Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida flagged off three tourism caravans at Dhauli, marking a new initiative to promote comfortable and safe travel across Odisha.

Speaking on the occasion, Smt Parida said the caravans will allow tourists to explore the State’s natural landscapes at their own pace with modern amenities that ensure convenience and sustainability. She noted that caravan tourism, which is popular in several European countries, will attract young travellers, adventure seekers and those interested in experiential and nature-based tourism.

Bhubaneswar-Ekamra MLA Babu Singh said the initiative would help tourists discover new destinations with greater comfort and safety and appreciated the government’s efforts.

Tourism Director Deepankar Mohapatra said caravan tourism would also help disperse tourist footfall beyond conventional destinations, supporting balanced regional development and reducing pressure on major tourist hubs.

The initiative has been launched by the Department of Tourism under the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) model and is being operated and managed by Sand and Pebble Tours. Destinations identified for caravan tourism include Hirakud, Similipal, Daringbadi, Deomali, Talsari, Pentha, Mangalajodi, Jiranga and other scenic locations across the State.

The first caravan trip was flagged off to Talsari in Balasore. Annada Prasad Padhy and Smt Archana Padhy were the first customers to receive tickets for the journey.

Among those present were Bhubaneswar Block Chairperson Nirupama Sahoo, Dhauli Sarpanch Chandan Mallick and Additional Secretary Rudra Narayan Dash, who delivered the vote of thanks.
