TNI Bureau: The seven redeveloped railway stations inaugurated in Odisha under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme mark a major step towards modernising rail infrastructure in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the upgraded stations at Balangir, Barpali, Paralakhemundi, Talcher, Kesinga, Baripada and Bimalgad to the nation as part of the nationwide launch of 75 redeveloped railway stations.
Developed at an investment of around Rs 109 crore, these stations have been redesigned to offer improved passenger facilities while preserving the cultural identity, heritage and architectural character of their respective regions. The initiative aims to transform railway stations into modern and passenger-friendly transport hubs.
The upgraded stations feature modern station buildings, improved circulating areas, spacious waiting halls, modern toilets, enhanced platform shelters, digital passenger information systems, better lighting and standardised signage. Improved multi-modal transport connectivity has also been incorporated to make travel more convenient for passengers.
To ensure easier movement within the stations, selected locations have been provided with 12-metre-wide Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) equipped with lift facilities. These improvements are expected to benefit all passengers, including senior citizens and persons with disabilities, by providing barrier-free access.
A unique aspect of the redevelopment is the incorporation of local art, culture and architectural elements into the station design. This helps showcase the distinct heritage of each region while giving the stations a modern look and feel.
Railway officials said the redeveloped stations will not only enhance passenger convenience but also strengthen regional connectivity, promote tourism, boost trade and support local economic growth. The project reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to building world-class railway infrastructure in line with the vision of a Viksit Bharat.
