Bhakta Das Held During Raj Bhavan Protest Over Student Issues

Date:

TNI Bureau: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Bhakta Charan Das was detained by police today while leading a peaceful protest outside Raj Bhavan against the alleged injustice to students. The Congress said the protest was organised to press its three key demands and alleged that the government was using the police to suppress the party’s voice.

The party demanded the immediate dismissal of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, a separate discussion in Parliament on the issue and the withdrawal of all cases registered against students participating in the protests.

Following his detention, Bhakta Charan Das said his arrest would not silence the Congress’ fight for justice for students. He asserted that the party would continue its agitation until every student receives justice and the future of the country’s youth is protected.

The Congress also said arrests, intimidation and police action would not deter its movement, adding that its leaders and workers would continue to raise their voice in support of students’ rights.
