Sajjan Kumar Acquitted, Shoe thrown at Judge

Date:

Protests erupted in and outside the court room in Delhi after senior Congress leader Sajjan Kumar was acquitted of all charges in connection with the 1984 riots case. One of the protesters hurled shoe at the judge who delivered this shocking verdict.

The Sikh organisations expressed their anger and outrage over the verdict, which convicted five others, but spared Sajjan Kumar, citing lack of evidence. The victims felt betrayed by the justice system, saying they were left stranded even after 29 years of the pogrom.

The victims and other Sikh groups targeted their ire at the Congress Party and accused the top brass and their leader Sonia Gandhi of shielding people like Sajjan Kumar.
