‘Vishwaroopam’ touches Rs 120 crore Mark

TNI Bureau: Kamal Haasan’s spy thriller ‘Vishwaroopam’ was given the heartiest welcome in Tamil Nadu as it collected a total of Rs 120 crore so far at the box office even after the controversy and ban. The flick was clicked in overseas too.

The film, which was released in Tamil Nadu theatres, 13 days after its worldwide release on January 25, entered the Rs 100 crore club. It achieved a huge success in Tamil Nadu, where the state government had banned following protests by some Muslim groups.

Kamal Haasan, who had invested most of his stakes in the film, the collection would bring relief for him. He proceeded to patch up with the protesters when his film was given a big welcome in North India and Mumbai. Following a series of talks between Haasan and Muslim groups’ leaders, the government allowed him to release the film lifting the ban order in the state.

The Muslim groups had protested against the release of the film citing their community has been portrayed in a poor light. They had objected few words and lines in the film. Haasan was given a green signal after he agreed to delete 7 minutes scenes from the film.
