TNI Bureau: ‘Ananda Bazar’, ‘Patitapabana’ and the Nilachakra logo associated with Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri have received trademark registration approval from the India Intellectual Property (IP) Office, marking a significant step towards protecting the temple’s unique spiritual, cultural and institutional identity.
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) had submitted 29 trademark applications covering various words, names and symbols linked to the temple. Of these, trademark registration has now been granted for the terms “Ananda Bazar” and “Patitapabana”, along with the iconic Nilachakra logo.
Temple authorities said the initiative is aimed at safeguarding the identity and heritage of the centuries-old shrine from unauthorised commercial use and misuse.
Approval for 26 other temple-related names and terms is expected in the coming months. The SJTA has also applied for trademark registration of the name “Jagannath Dham”.
Officials described the development as an important milestone in preserving and legally protecting the distinct legacy of Shree Jagannath Temple.
