Tamil Nadu Gas Leak Tragedy: Another Odia worker dies, Death toll rises to 14; FIR filed

TNI Bureau: Death toll of Odia migrant workers in the Tamil Nadu ammonia gas leak tragedy has climbed to 14 after another young woman succumbed to her injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Anjali Anjana Juanga of Kharaba village, Harichandanpur, Kendujhar district. She was on ventilator support at Stanley Hospital.

The tragic incident occurred due to an ammonia gas leak at Peter & Paul Seafood Exports Private Ltd. in Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu which affected several workers, most of them from Odisha’s tribal-dominated districts.

Anjali, belonging to the Juang tribal community, who had been battling for life since the accident.

The Odisha Labour Department has filed FIRs in six police stations in connection with the Tamil Nadu ammonia gas leak tragedy. The FIRs have been lodged to initiate action against labour maphias and middlemen who sent workers to the hazardous unit without proper documentation and safety compliance.

According to officials, cases have been registered at Telkoi, Kendujhar Town, Kendujhar Sadar, Harichandanpur, Ghatgaon, and Banspal police stations.
