Shuddh Desi Romance – Movie Review

‘Shuddh Desi Romance’ is an earnest attempt by director Manish Sharma to depict a real contemporary story about present-day relationship in modern India. Although the film is not an outstanding one, some of its ‘hatke’ offerings make it special. No doubt, Sushant Singh and Parineeti Chopra have justified their roles in the movie.

hPlot – The film is all about the happenings that take place when three young people in today’s India try to figure out what love, attraction and commitment mean to each of them. On his way to his wedding venue, Raghu (Sushant Singh Rajput) meets Gayatri (Parineeti Chopra), an open minded, independent woman who lives life on her own terms. Impressed with the girl, Raghu decides to run away from his own wedding.

A fortnight later, the two meet and begin dating. Entering into a live-in-relationship, the two decide to get married. On the day of the wedding Gayatri runs out on him and Raghu is left confused. But fortune again brings the two love birds together in a wedding where Raghu meets Tara (Vaani Kapoor), the woman he was going to tie the knot with. She asks him out initially on a revenge trip but slowly their relationships turns serious. When she was on her way to propose him, Gayatri makes a re-entry in his life and watch the film for what happens next.

Review – The film is definitely an interesting watch despite a slow second pace. Good thing about the film is that – it seems real in the pretext of present day India. More clearly, a lot of youth will place them in Sushant’s place and analyze their love, when watching the film. Of course some repetitive instances make the film slightly boring. Another jerk is that the film had already revealed the magic moments in the teaser video which sometimes makes it less interesting.

Coming to the performances, Sushant’s work is commendable as he easily portrays the character of a present day guy of India, who is confused on his love. Equally Parineeti has made justice to her role and we can see a good deal of chemistry in them. After this film, we certainly can expect Sushant as a fine actor in the coming days of Bollywood. As such, he is lucky enough to make his journey all the way from ‘Pavitra Rista’, in the ambit of small screen to the silver big screen. Not many guys avail this fortune.

Verdict – The film is a realistic approach on today’s Youth-love relationship and should be watched for its freshness besides Sushant and Pari.
