Date:

TNI Bureau: Around 4,000 EVMs were destroyed in a massive fire at a government building in Kolkata’s Alipore area. The machines had been used in 10 Assembly constituencies during this year’s West Bengal elections.

State Fire Services Minister Kaushik Chowdhury said the fire appeared suspicious and that the possibility of sabotage was being examined. Following a complaint from the district administration, police registered an FIR and launched an investigation.

Forensic experts will inspect the site to determine the cause of the blaze, while firefighting and cooling operations continue.
