TNI Bureau: Internet services were suspended in Sundargarh town for 24 hours today after a violent group clash left at least 12 people injured, including four police personnel.
The district administration enforced the shutdown from 6 pm to prevent the spread of rumours and maintain law and order. Prohibitory orders under Section 163 have also been imposed in the Regent Market area, Sundargarh District Collector Subhankar Mohapatra said.
The clash erupted near Regent Market under the Sundargarh Town Police Station limits, reportedly triggered by a rumour following a minor dispute. The situation escalated quickly, with stone-pelting between two groups. Some individuals allegedly used sticks and swords during the violence.
Police rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control, during which several personnel were injured. All the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
To prevent further unrest, the administration has deployed 10 platoons of police in sensitive areas. Western Range DIG Brijesh Rai reviewed the situation on the ground and warned that internet services may be extended or further restrictions imposed if the situation worsens.
