India win ICC Shield for being No. 1 in ODIs

Team India skipper MS Dhoni had reasons to smile amidst a series of controversies surround him in the recent days, as he received the prestigious ICC ODI Championship Shield and a cheque worth $175,000 after India finished at the top of the ICC ODI Championship table on the annual April 1 cut-off date.

The ICC ODI rankings were introduced in 2002, but this is the first time India finished as the No. 1 side in ODIs. Former ICC President David Morgan presented the Shield to MS Dhoni.

India achieved the top ranking for their consistent performance between April 1, 2012 and April 1, 2013. The team won 8 ODIs, while they lost 5. India are currently the World Champions. India finished at the top with 119 points, while Australia finished second with 116 points. South Africa  secured the third spot with 113 points.
