TNI Bureau: The Centre has authorised the Delhi Police Commissioner to exercise detention powers under the National Security Act (NSA), 1980, from July 19 to October 18, 2026, according to a notification issued by the Delhi Government’s Home Department.
The notification, issued on July 15, states that the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi has empowered the Police Commissioner to act as a detaining authority under provisions of the NSA during the three-month period.
Under the National Security Act, authorities can order preventive detention in cases related to national security, public order, or other specified grounds. The law allows detention without a regular criminal trial for a specified period, subject to the provisions and safeguards laid down under the Act.
The order will remain in force from July 19 to October 18, 2026.
