TNI Bureau: Climate activist and educationist Sonam Wangchuk requested the hospital authorities to allow him to leave the hospital so that he can participate in the peaceful march to Parliament.
In his letter to the hospital administration, Wangchuk said that his health parameters are quite normal and he is fit to be discharged.
Based on the clinical assessment of the treating teams from VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital and AlIMS, New Delhi, continued medical intervention and uninterrupted clinical monitoring. He remains under continuous medical management and the close supervision of a multidisciplinary team of experts.
Earlier, he had agreed to end his indefinite hunger strike on July 20, subject to the fulfilment of any one of three conditions outlined in a handwritten note issued from Safdarjung Hospital.
In the note addressed to his “friends and supporters”, Wangchuk said he would call off his fast if the government accepts accountability for recent failures in the education system, including exam paper leaks.
As a second condition, he said that if he and the leadership of the Campaign for Judicial and Public (CJP) are allowed to reach Parliament, Members of Parliament and leaders of various political parties should assure them that the issue will be taken up in Parliament.
Alternatively, if his health or other factors prevent him from travelling, Wangchuk said MPs and political leaders should visit him at Safdarjung Hospital and provide the same assurance.
The activist also alleged that he is under “illegal detention” at Safdarjung Hospital and claimed that his freedom of movement, speech and communication has been restricted.
Wangchuk’s announcement comes amid his ongoing protest over alleged failures in the education system and ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, where he is seeking a broader political discussion on the issue.
