TNI Bureau: A shocking case of alleged molestation of a minor girl by a CISF jawan has triggered outrage in West Bengal’s West Burdwan district, leading to protests by local residents and swift police action.
The incident took place in the Shitalpur area of Kulti near Asansol, where a 10-year-old girl had reportedly gone to plach mangoes near residential quarters close to a CISF camp on Sunday afternoon.
According to police, the accused, identified as CISF jawan Ramakant Vishwakarma, allegedly lured the child by offering her ripe mangoes and took her to his quarters.
Reports state that another younger child was made to wait outside while the accused allegedly attempted to sexually assault the 10-year-old inside the room. The girl raised an alarm, after which the jawan fled the spot on his scooter. She later informed her family about the incident.
The victim’s family, along with local residents, immediately approached the police and filed a written complaint at the Saktoria outpost under Kulti police station. As news of the incident spread, angry locals gathered near Shitalpur Gate No. 3 and staged a road blockade, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused.
Police acted quickly and detained the accused within hours before formally arresting him. A case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and further investigation is underway. Authorities have also confirmed that the CISF jawan has been suspended from service following the incident.
Officials clarified that the accused was not deployed for election duty but was on regular security deployment for nearby coal mines. Local leaders condemned the incident, calling it deeply disturbing and demanding strict punishment.
Meanwhile, CISF has clarified that upon receiving a molestation complaint against the CISF personnel, the individual has been dismissed from service. This step is in line with the zero-tolerance policy of CISF in such cases, they said.
The individual has been handed over to Kulti P.S. for further legal action, it further added.
CISF remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of discipline and integrity. Any misconduct is viewed with utmost seriousness and will not be tolerated under any circumstances, reads the clarification.
