The incident, reported from Dianali village under Patna Block, drew widespread outrage after Jitu Munda was forced to struggle to prove the death of his sister, late Kalra Munda, in order to access her bank deposit of ₹19,300.

Describing the matter as deeply unfortunate, the Chief Minister said he was pained by the incident and advised officials to be more sensitive towards ordinary citizens, especially those from remote and vulnerable communities. He also directed that such incidents must not be repeated in the future.

Following the Chief Minister’s intervention, the issue has now been resolved. The district administration extended immediate financial assistance of ₹30,000 to Jitu Munda from the District Red Cross Fund under the government’s humanitarian “Lok Seva” approach.

Officials also helped the family secure the necessary documents, including the death certificate and legal heir certificate, on a fast-track basis. The Medical Officer issued the death certificate promptly considering the family’s helpless condition.

To ensure that the bank deposit reached the beneficiary without further delay, the Tahsildar personally coordinated with bank authorities. Jitu Munda was handed over ₹19,402, including interest, against the original deposit amount of ₹19,300.

However, taking the matter seriously, the Chief Minister has ordered an RDC-level inquiry to determine how such an incident occurred and to ensure that it is never repeated. He has asked for a detailed investigation and an immediate report on any negligence at the administrative or banking level. According to official sources, the Northern RDC will begin the inquiry from tomorrow.

The Keonjhar District Administration also stated that instructions have been issued to local officers to act with greater sensitivity and ensure easier access to government and banking services for people living in remote areas.

The incident has sparked a larger debate on the insensitivity of rural banking systems and the urgent need for simpler procedures for poor and tribal families seeking access to their rightful entitlements.
