Women’s World Cup: Australia, New Zealand reach Super 6
TNI Bureau: Australia and New Zealand became the first two teams to reach the Super Six stage with two consecutive victories in their group. Australia defeated South Africa by 3 wickets at DRIEMS, Cuttack, while New Zealand beat Pakistan by 7 wickets at Barabati, Cuttack.
South Africa had scored 187/9 in 50 overs. Australia reached the target in 45.4 overs by losing seven wickets in the process. In the other match, Pakistan bowled out for just 104 in 41.2 overs. New Zealand reached 108/3 in just 29.4 overs.
West Indies stunned Sri Lanka that had caused a major upset in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2013 by beating Champions England. West Indies scored 368/8 in 50 overs, thanks to 171 off 137 balls by Stafanie Taylor. Deandra Dottin (50), Kyshona Knight (44) and Merissa Aquilleira (47*) were the other top contributors. Sri Lanka bowled out for just 159 and lost the match by 209 runs.
