Delhi Gangrape Victim dies in Singapore Hospital
TNI Bureau: The 23-year-old Delhi gangrape victim, who was fighting for life for the last 13 days, breathed her last at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore. Top doctors of the world tried their best to save her life, but in vain.
The victim was air-lifted to Singapore on Thursday after condition deteriorated at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital. She was suffering from multiple organ failure. She passed away at 2:15 AM (IST) today. Her family members and Indian diplomats were on her side when she died.
The victim was gangraped by six people in a moving bus in Delhi for about 40 minutes on December 16. Her male friend was badly beaten up and thrown out of the bus. She was later dumped by a roadside.
All six accused, including a juvenile, were arrested. They are lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail. The incident triggered a massive outrage across Delhi and other parts of India.
The Singapore Government, Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, Indian PM Dr. Manmohan Singh, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit condoled the death of the gangrape victim. The Delhi CM has appealed for calm. The victim’s body would be flown back to India soon.
