Wildlife Act Violation charges against Baijyant Panda

TNI Bureau: Kendrapada BJD MP Baijyant Panda landed in a fresh trouble for allegedly violating the Wildlife Protection Act. Charges were made for flying his chopper at low height over the Bhitarkanika sanctuary, which is prohibited area.

The leader landed inside the sanctuary at Panchubarahi temple at Satabhaya in Rajnagar block without taking permission from the Rajnagar Mangrove Forest and Wildlife DFO. According to reports, he was flying over the prohibited area to attend a meeting near Panchbarahi temple on Monday.

Two separate cases may be filed against Panda for his entry to the sanctuary area with the helicopter without taking permission and disturbing the wild life by violating the green rules.

Wildlife Society of Odisha secretary and member of National Board for Wildlife Biswajit Mohanty sought stern action against the leader, saying he will take the matter to the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest.

Earlier, Panda had also violated the Wildlife Protection Act by flying his helicopter at low height over the tiger sanctuary at Satkosia in Angul district. However, no action was taken against him.
