India placed 3rd on UK Immigrant Child Birth List
TNI Bureau: About 24 percent of the total births that took place in UK last year are children of immigrants as per a recently released data. The data also reveals that India stands at 3rd position in this list. The report was releasesd by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), UK.
The report suggests that there were 808,000 births in the UK last year, of which 196,000 were children born to non-UK born women. The growth can be seen as a considerable one as in 2001, the percentage of the number of children born to mothers who were born abroad was only 15.3 per cent.
As per the data, Poland tops the list, while Pakistan stands at the number 2 position above India in the list. While Polish women who live in the UK gave birth to around 23,000 children last year, women from Pakistan produced 19,200 babies and Indian women gave birth to 15,500 children in the same year.
Bangladesh, Nigeria, Somalia, Germany, South Africa, Lithuania and China were the other countries in the Top 10 list of immigrant births in UK.
The data also reveals the fertility rate for non-UK born women to be 2.28 children each, while for those born in the UK the figure is 1.89, which is almost half of the first group.
Further, the ONS data revealed that while 14 per cent of the women in the age group of 15 to 44, living in the UK were born outside the UK in the year 2007, the figure has increased to 18per cent in 2011.
