TNI Bureau: The first round of US–Iran talks in Switzerland ended on Monday with both sides agreeing on a 60-day roadmap to reach a final agreement amid ongoing regional tensions.
Mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, the joint statement said technical-level talks will continue this week in Buergenstock, Switzerland. Both sides also agreed on steps to reduce fighting in Lebanon and establish a communication channel to ensure safe commercial passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian officials held negotiations under a recent ceasefire extension deal. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran secured oil and petrochemical export waivers, partial release of frozen assets, and a reconstruction plan, while the White House gave no immediate response.
Tensions continued as US President Donald Trump warned Iran over any move to close the Strait of Hormuz and reiterated possible US control of the waterway. Reports differed on whether Iranian delegates briefly withdrew, though a US diplomat said talks continued through mediators.
Oil prices fell after the agreement, with Brent crude dropping to $79.44 per barrel. Iran linked the strait closure to unmet commitments on Lebanon and said nuclear issues were not discussed in detail. Both sides, however, covered the Strait of Hormuz, Lebanon, nuclear concerns, and implementation of the agreement, while ceasefire-related calm was reported in parts of Lebanon.
