SC asks Ranjit Sinha to step out of 2G Probe
In a major blow to the credibility of the CBI, the Supreme Court rapped its Director Ranjit Sinha and directed him to step out of the 2G scam probe. The court also said the information given by the petitioner against Mr Sinha was “credible and acceptable.”
“We are not giving detailed, elaborate orders to protect the fair name of the institution and reputation of the CBI (as it will damage the institution),” said judges. With this verdict, Ranjit Sinha virtually lost the right to continue as CBI Director. It would be interesting to see what action the Union Home Ministry takes in this regard.
Noted Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan had alleged that as CBI director Ranjit Sinha had regular meeting with top telecom executives accused in 2G scam at his Delhi home. He had produced the visitors’ diary to prove his claims.
