Naveen Patnaik seeks Rs 500 crore Hudhud Assistance
Two days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an interim assistance of Rs 1,000 crore for cyclone-ravaged Andhra Pradesh, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik has written a letter to the PM, seeking Rs 500 crore assistance to deal with the crisis arisen of Cyclone Hudhud. Earlier, Naveen drew flak for not seeking any assistance even four days after the cyclone devastation.
The cyclone, which was less effective in Odisha, triggered widespread devastation in tribal areas of Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts. Around one lakh houses (mostly thatched) were damaged by the cyclone. Around 600 electric poles and 24 transformers were damaged.
Some areas in these districts are still without power. Road communication network is being restored on a war footing. The government is making efforts to ensure food and relief materials for all affected people.
