In a major jolt to Naveen Patnaik led BJD Government in Odisha, the Orissa High Court stayed the vigilance case against former DGP Prakash Mishra till further notice and asked the state government to furnish all documents and information related to the case and file a reply by October 29.
The government cannot act against Prakash Mishra, who is currently serving as the Special Secretary, Internal Security at the Ministry of Home Affairs. The former DGP had termed the state government’s action as a vendetta against him. He had also alleged that the government is trying to scuttle his chances of becoming the CBI Director in December 2014.

The government, which brought Mr. Mishra back from Delhi in 2012 to make him the DGP, has now alleged that the former DGP had flouted rules in granting supply orders to the tune of Rs 58 crore during his tenure as the CMD of the Police Housing and Welfare corporation from 2006 to 2009.
Political pundits believe that Prakash Mishra is being targeted by some vested interests in the government for refusing to comply with their directives during his tenure as the DGP of the state. The government also tried to put hurdles when he wanted to move to the centre. But, it was Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who used his powers and forced the state government to relieve Prakash Mishra.
