1) Argentina set a title clash with arch-rival Germany, as they defeated the Netherlands in a thrilling semifinal of the FIFA World Cup, the biggest sports extravaganza of 2014. The match was decided by penalty shootout after both teams failed to score any goal in the stipulated time. Goalkeeper Sergio Romer was the hero of the match, as he saved three penalties. The final score was 4-2 in favour of Argentina.
2) Indian opener Murli Vijay scored a hundred, while skipper MS Dhoni scored a fifty to take India 259/4 at stumps on Day 1 of the Trent Bridge Test match against England. At close, Vijay was batting on 122, while Dhoni was on 50. Pujara (38) and Rahane (32) were the other contributors. For England, Anderson took two wickets.
