Theft Cases on Rise in Bhubaneswar, Police Clueless

Date:

After a brief lull, the thieves and robbers are back at their work, by giving a slip to the Commissionerate Police, which yet again failed to protect the lives and properties of the citizens. From Shahid Nagar to Kharavela Nagar and Khandagiri, the robbers are looting the shops and houses at their ease, thanks to the callousness of the police in Bhubaneswar.

Theft-RobberyOn November 23, jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh, was stolen from a house in Gandamunda Talabania under Khandagiri Police Station. The incident took place between 8 PM and 11 PM, while the family was away on a wedding. The PCR van reached on the spot only two hours after the police station was notified.

Also, on the same day, two robbers broke the shutter and looted 1 kg silver jewellery from the Pushpa Jewellery at Acharya Vihar Square. They failed to take more, as the landlord woke up on time and raised the alarm. In another incident, gold chain of a woman, Janaki Pradhan, was snatched at the busy Ram Mandir Square near Kharavela Nagar.

On November 24, a businessman, Bharat Chandra Samal (50) had alleged that Rs 14 lakh was looted from his truck in front of Khandagiri Police Station, while he was having lunch in a dhaba. The matter is still being investigated.

On November 25, the robbers broke the shutter of a Samsung showroom in Samantarapur area and looted 18 mobile phones, Rs 55,000 cash and an expensive laptop. In a repetition of the same incident on November 26, some unidentified robbers barged into another mobile phone showroom in Shahid Nagar and looted equipments worth several lakhs.

This is unfortunate, outrageous and surprising that the robbers are roaming around the city without fear and targeting the properties, but the police does know how to respond to the situation and where to nab them.
