Michael Phelps rules Olympics with 19 Medals

TNI Bureau: Swimmer Michael Phelps became the most decorated Olympian with 19 medals to his credit when he won the gold medal in the 4×200 metre freestyle relay.

With this, Phelps has now won 15 gold, two silver and two bronze medals so far. He broke the record of Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina, who had won 18 medals between 1956 and 1964.

Phelps made his Olympic debut in 2000, when he became the youngest American male swimmer in 68 years at the age of 15. He finished fifth in 200m butterfly. Phelps won 6 gold medals in 2004 Olympics at Athens and 8 gold medals at the Beijing Olympics 2008.

He made a bad start at 2012 London Olympics by finishing fourth in the 400m medley. Later, he won silver in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay.
