BJD Targets BJP Govt Over Textbook Errors, Demands Accountability

Date:

TNI Bureau: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) alleged that the BJP government is playing with the future of students by distributing error-ridden school textbooks and demanded immediate corrective measures.

Addressing a press conference at Sankha Bhawan, BJD MLA Gautam Buddha Das, Biju Yuva Janata Dal president Chinmaya Sahu, Biju Chhatra Janata Dal president Ipsita Sahu and party spokesperson Lenin Mohanty claimed that more than 1,760 errors have been found in textbooks for Classes I to VIII. They said the government should immediately provide revised and error-free textbooks or allow students to continue studying from the previous syllabus books.

The leaders alleged that the mistakes have hurt the Odia language and identity. They also demanded strict action against officials involved in the preparation, review and editing of the textbooks and sought recovery of the printing costs from those responsible.

BJD leaders further demanded withdrawal of the faulty textbooks and their replacement with corrected editions. They warned that the party would launch a strong agitation if the government failed to act. The party also called on the concerned minister to take moral responsibility and resign, while urging the Chief Minister to apologise to the people of the state and ensure action against those responsible.
