Sanjay Gandhi (1980): The Congress leader died when his light aircraft crashed at Safdarjung Airport in Delhi, on June 23, 1980, in poor weather conditions.

Madhavrao Scindia (2001): Senior Congress leader and Union Minister Madhavrao Scindia died in a plane crash near Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, on September 30, 2001, reportedly due to engine failure and bad weather.

G.M.C. Balayogi (2002): The Lok Sabha Speaker died in a helicopter crash in Andhra Pradesh on March 3, 2002, during poor weather, marking a rare constitutional loss.

Om Prakash Jindal and Surender Singh (2005): Haryana ministers Om Prakash Jindal and Surender Singh died in a helicopter crash near Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on March 3, 2005.

Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy (2009): The Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh died in a helicopter crash in the Nallamala forests on September 2, 2009, after the aircraft flew into severe weather conditions.

Dorjee Khandu (2011): The then Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister died in a helicopter crash near Tawang on April 30, 2011. Poor weather and difficult terrain were cited as major factors.

Vijay Rupani (2025): Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani died in a major plane crash involving an Air India flight shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025. The state observed a day of mourning, and investigations are ongoing.

Ajit Pawar (2026): Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar died on January 28, 2026, when his Learjet 45 crashed near Baramati in Pune district while attempting to land. All those on board were killed. His death created a major political void in the state.
