TNI Bureau: Indian music star Arijit Singh has announced that he is retiring from playback singing and will no longer take up new film assignments, though he will continue to create music independently.

In a detailed Instagram post, Singh thanked fans for their support and said he was stepping away from film playback after a fulfilling journey. He clarified that he will honour his existing commitments and that some pending songs may still be released this year. “Just to be clear, I won’t stop making music,” he wrote, adding that he wants to focus on personal artistic growth and independent work.

The announcement has surprised fans and the music industry, sparking widespread discussion on social media.

Born on April 25, 1987, in Jiaganj, Murshidabad, West Bengal, Singh rose to fame after participating in Fame Gurukul in 2005. He made his playback debut with “Phir Mohabbat” from Murder 2 (2011) and became a household name with “Tum Hi Ho” from Aashiqui 2 (2013).

Over the years, he has delivered numerous hit songs, including “Channa Mereya,” “Binte Dil,” and “Kesariya,” and has also worked as a composer and music producer. Singh has received several National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards, and was conferred the Padma Shri in 2025.

While his exit from playback singing marks a major shift in his career, fans can still look forward to new music as he continues his journey as an independent artist.
