Date:

TNI Bureau: Police have launched an investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl in Bhadrak district’s Chandabali police station area. The minor’s body was recovered on Tuesday from a dense forest within Chandabali limits.

According to information, the girl had left her home after telling her family that she was going to school. When she failed to return, her family members began searching for her. The search later led to the recovery of her body from the forest.

Police are examining CCTV footage from nearby locations and, based on initial findings, have taken four local persons into custody for questioning. Officials said further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.

The incident has sparked public outrage in the area. Local residents staged protests demanding justice, blocking roads and burning tyres. Chandabali police reached the spot and carried out necessary measures to control the situation.

Police have detained five persons in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a minor girl in Baligaon under Chandabali police station limits in Bhadrak district.

Bhadrak Superintendent of Police Manoj Rout said four local residents have been taken into custody on suspicion, while another person is being brought from Jagatsinghpur for questioning. A scientific team, sniffer dog squad, and additional police force have been deployed at the crime scene as part of the ongoing investigation.

According to police sources, the sniffer dog reportedly led investigators to the house of one Ganesh Das in Rampalli village under Chandabali. Following this lead, four members of his family were detained for questioning. Sources further claimed that Ganesh Das’s son, Bablu Das—suspected to be the main accused—has been apprehended from Jagatsinghpur. However, this development has not yet been officially confirmed by the police.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed in Chandabali as local residents staged protests demanding justice. Protesters blocked roads and burned tyres at three locations—Hatpati, Madhubabu Chhak, and near the bus stand—disrupting traffic.

Police said the investigation into the rape and murder allegations is continuing, and further details will be shared after verification of facts.
