TNI Bureau: Following the dispute over a canal between Haridas and Kusubenti village under Kusubenti Panchayat in Brahmagiri Block, Brahmagiri MLA Upasna Mohapatra slammed former Brahmagiri MLA Sanjay Dasburma for his hypocrisy in this issue, saying that the “escapist leader” who fled from Brahmagiri for his own gain is now shedding crocodile tears, after being rejected by people everywhere. The reason for calling the press conference is to appeal to the villagers to cooperate with the police and administration and come forward for the development of Brahmagiri. We will not move forward without the discussion of the locals, said Upasna.
Taking a strong stand in Brahmagiri canal row Upasna said, the administration is taking steps to restore the proposed Haridas to the CDA canal under Kusubenti Gram Panchayat.
In 2018, the then MLA Sanjay Dasburma wrote a letter to the then Government to restore the canal.
When Sanjay Das was the MLA, he wrote a letter for the canal restoration project along the side of Adhaghai Mouja by the irrigation project built in Gobardhanpur under Brahmagiri block and failed.
Around Rs 7 crore was announced for restoration of the project in 2023, but now when the work is scheduled to begin in 2025, he is opposing it. Sanjay Dasburma is creating unrest by provoking the poor.
His main aim is to defame Mohan Majhi Government. He should refrain from doing this, said Upasna.
Farmers have been demanding for restoration of this canal for a long time, Upasna said.
She further stated that the opposition leader who was once wrote a letter for this project and got it approved during his Government, now is opposing it. During his Government, which had promised us for a permanent solution many times and used to praise that project, today opposing it.
“The “escapist leader” who made technical points through a press statement, needs to understand that building any dam on Government land, whether uninhabited or occupied, is considered illegal and unconstitutional, said Upasna.
Upasana advised the BJD leader not to play cheap politics on this sensitive issue.
