Unlike its predecessor, `Aashiqui 2` has not been given the kind of treatment that a classical on-screen romance should have been given. The Mohit Suri’s flick does not live up to the expectation despite Aditya Roy Kapoor’s best efforts.
Plot – Rahul Jaykar (Aditya Roy Kapur), a rock star at the peak of his career, discovers Arohi Shirke (Shraddha Kapoor) a shy female wannabe songbird, while singing at a bar and he spots the singing star of tomorrow in her. Rahul takes her under his wings to groom her for playback singing and helps her get a big platform to make her voice reach millions. In no time, she becomes a high-flying singer. And yes, the duo fall in love in between all these events.
But while the lady goes on to become a successful singer the boy loses his career and turns in to an alcoholic and falling singing sensation. Yet the girl being the honest girlfriend then helps him revive his career, and thus, their relationship. But circumstances obstruct the smooth course of their love and relationship.
`Aashiqui 2` is a clean film but the biggest want, the ideal romance element, is missing here. Coming to performances, while Aditya Roy Kapoor tries his best to make things work in the film by being as real as possible, the female lead Shraddha Kapoor is too weak to even support the male protagonist. So, obviously chemistry between the lead pair is missing.
Amongst the supporting cast, Shaad Randhawa as Rahul`s friend has performed well and it makes us to recall Deepak Tizori in Aashiqui (1990). He is one friend in the film that everybody would wish to have in real life.

Both story and direction lacks a lot in the film. The individual scenes are not balanced properly, I mean some scenes are unnecessarily dragged a bit too much at times and there are instances where the length of the sequences is abruptly reduced.
The soundtrack by Jeet Ganguly, Mithoon, Ankit Tiwari and lyrics by Irshad Kamil and Sanjay Masoomm are soulful and romantic. Especially the song `Tum Hi Ho` – sung by Arijith Singh is the one, you would like to take home.
Verdict – Watch the film for Aditya Roy Kapur and the beautiful songs. But if you are looking for a fresh story it is not your cup of tea. And never go to the theatre keeping in mind the expectation (level) of Aashiqui.
