100-Word Insight: Dadan Tragedy Continues

Date:

The recurring deaths of Odia migrant workers outside the state are a painful reminder of Odisha’s unresolved “dadan” crisis. From industrial accidents to murders and unexplained deaths, poor labourers continue to pay the price for distress migration. Poor tribals, women, and minors are suffering the most ss migrant workers.

Despite repeated promises and welfare schemes by successive governments, thousands are still forced to leave their homes in search of livelihood. Their suffering rarely receives sustained attention until tragedy strikes.

The Odisha government must move beyond compensation and focus on creating employment opportunities, strengthening labour protection mechanisms and ensuring safe migration.
