TNI Bureau: A shocking murder in Odisha’s Hinjili has triggered widespread outrage after a pregnant woman was threatened with death in front of mediapersons and later brutally killed, raising serious questions about policing and public safety.
Condemning the incident, Ranjita Sahu, General Secretary (Women’s Affairs) of the Biju Janata Dal, claimed that the accused had openly warned of killing the woman in the presence of the media. Despite the gravity of the threat, she alleged, the police failed to act in time to prevent the crime.
Sahoo termed the episode a “complete breakdown of law and order,” questioning how such a heinous act could unfold so publicly without immediate intervention. “If a woman can be threatened before cameras and then murdered without resistance, what does it say about the state’s policing?” she asked.
The incident has intensified concerns over women’s safety in the region, with opposition leaders demanding accountability from the administration.
Earlier in the day, Naveen Patnaik, Leader of Opposition and BJD President, wrote to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, expressing deep anguish over the killing and urging immediate action to ensure justice.
As public anger mounts, the state government is under increasing pressure to respond decisively and restore confidence in law enforcement.
