Many villages in the state witness a load shedding of 6-8 hours, while the duration is 2-4 hours for small towns. Even the capital city Bhubaneswar witnesses power cuts for 30 minutes on a daily basis.

Ahead of matric exams in February, students and their parents are bracing for a tough time due to these unannounced power cuts. Many business establishments and shop owners in the state too resent the power cuts, saying it would affect their business.

Common people question the rationale behind such power cuts, saying why the government can’t arrange more power at a time when the consumers are paying far more towards the tariff.
