Tara Tarini Temple to earn Rs 3.88L from ‘Hair Sale’

The famous Tara Tarini temple in Odisha’s Ganjam district is all set to earn Rs 3.88 lakh from the sale of hair, which were offered by the devotees this year. At the auction held to purchase the hair, a group from Andhra Pradesh won the bid by offering the highest.

The 17th Century Tara Tarini Temple is located atop Dahihandi near Purushottampur in Ganjam district. It has 999 steps, but also has alternative arrangements for the devotees who prefer to travel by car or other vehicles. Around one lakh devotees throng the temple to get the heads of their children tonsured on every Tuesday of Chaitra month.

The hair collected from the offering, is processed and exported to foreign countries, including the US, the UK, France, Germany and Hong Kong.
