TNI Bureau: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has raised concerns over what he described as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the deepening Iran crisis, warning that the situation could have serious consequences for India’s energy security and strategic interests.
In a social media post, Gandhi said the world is entering a highly volatile phase and cautioned that India could face major disruptions if the conflict in West Asia intensifies further.
He pointed out that a significant portion of India’s crude oil imports passes through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, making the country vulnerable to any instability in the region.
He also highlighted the reported sinking of the Iranian naval warship IRIS Dena in the Indian Ocean, describing it as an indication that the conflict is moving closer to India’s strategic neighbourhood.
According to Rahul Gandhi, such developments demand clear communication and leadership from the government.
Questioning the Centre’s response, the Congress leader said the Prime Minister has not publicly addressed the implications of the crisis despite the potential impact on India’s economy, energy supplies, and regional stability.
He argued that at a time of global uncertainty, India requires steady and transparent leadership.
Gandhi further alleged that India’s strategic autonomy has weakened and stressed the need for the government to clearly articulate the country’s position as tensions in the region continue to rise.
His remarks come amid growing global concern over escalating hostilities in West Asia and their possible impact on international trade routes and energy markets.
