President signs Anti-Rape Bill, Anything to Cheer?

Date:

Even though President Pranab Mukherjee sent a strong signal to many wrongdoers in the country by signing the Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2013 commonly known as the anti-rape bill, the series of rape cases continue unabated in the country. The criminals do not bother about the stricter provisions in the law. They keep doing what they intend to do.

The bill with stricter provisions, was passed by the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha earlier last month. Many provisions in the bill are still debatable, but overall, the government included everything, which were necessary.

The bill has become a law, but it is yet to be seen what changes it would bring to the social fabrics of the country and whether it will really provide a strong security to the women, who have been at the receiving end of all crimes and atrocities.
