Uproar over Student Leader’s death in West Bengal

Date:

A massive uproar has been created across the nation after a leader of Students Federation of India (SFI), Sudipta Gupta was brutally beaten up by the West Bengal Police and later succumbed to the injuries. That also triggered a huge debate over the lawlessness in Mamata Banerjee’s rule where nobody except the Trinamool Congress workers feel safe these days.

The 22-year-old student leader, was arrested after a clash with the police. It is clearly evident that he was tortured in police custody, which ultimately led to his death. The policemen came up with an absurd explanation that Sudipta fell from a vehicle after his head hit a lamppost. Even West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee believed this theory and gave a clean chit to his cops.

The SFI, affiliated to CPI-M, has called for a West Bengal bandh. Protests will be held elsewhere in the state. The strike will be supported by other student unions, including AISF, BSU and AISU. The SFI has demanded a judicial probe into the death of Sudipta Gupta.
