The detention under NSA was done to prevent him from acting in any manner prejudicial to public order.

Raja Acharya has been found to be terrorising citizens repeatedly for extorting ‘dadabati’, said Police Commissioner Dr. Sudhanshu Sarangi.

49-year-old Raja alias Sandeep Acharya is a resident of BJB Nagar Bhubaneswar. He was earlier arrested on October 17, 2020 on extortion charges after the Commissionerate Police launched ‘Say No To Extortion’ (Dadabati Ku Na) campaign.

It can be noted that Raja Acharya was the main accused in the murder of Judo Coach Biranchi Das in 2008. He served the life sentence and was released from jail in April 2019.
