The letter, issued from the Odisha Legislative Assembly, expresses “deep anguish” over the brutal killing of a pregnant woman, allegedly murdered in front of her three-year-old daughter. According to the details cited by Patnaik, the accused is the brother of the victim’s partner. The woman was reportedly staging a dharna outside her partner’s house, seeking justice, when she was attacked.

Naveen Patnaik highlighted the disturbing visuals of the child crying beside her mother’s body, stating that the incident has “shocked the conscience of Odisha.” He questioned the apparent lapse in preventive policing, asking why no action was taken despite the victim’s public protest.

Calling for urgent intervention, the BJD Chief demanded the immediate arrest of all accused persons and sought comprehensive support for the minor child, including state care, compensation, and rehabilitation. He also pressed for an inquiry into the failure of law enforcement agencies to act in time.

“As Chief Minister holding the Home portfolio, I urge you to ensure that the perpetrators are punished as per law and such incidents are not repeated,” Patnaik wrote, emphasizing accountability and justice.

The letter adds political weight to the incident, putting pressure on the state government to respond swiftly amid growing public outrage over law and order concerns.
